A Gliding Sugar Glider
In order to understand your pet at home, you should first understand the natural habitat and the surroundings in which Sugar gliders live. This will greatly help you to understand your sugar glider better, so that you can bond with your little pet for a lifetime.
Natural Sugar gliders live on trees in the wild, especially where there are tree hollows for protection. Sugar gliders glide from one tree to another, and thus their name. Sugar gliders are gregarious by nature, which means they live in groups generally consisting of about 12-30 sugar gliders in one group. This feature of sugar gliders in the wild is an important characteristic of your pet and I shall discuss this in detail in another post. For now, remember that due to this property of natural sugar gliders to live in the groups, pet sugar gliders easily bond with each family member equally well.
In the wild, natural sugar gliders feed on insects and plant sap. This property is again very useful to understand what to feed your pet sugar glider, as it retains this omnivorous characteristic of a natural sugar glider. Also, there are equally good number of precautions you will have to take, for example, to make sure your pet sugar glider doesn't eat any bugs killed by pesticides. We will deal with these issues in a later post, so keep updated!
Sugar gliders are Australian animals, like so many other exotic creatures you find in that continent. They are on an average 7 inches in length and weigh about 120 grams. What you should realize is that by understanding natural sugar gliders in the wild, you can understand your pet sugar glider. For example, if you feel scared by the hissing sounds that you pet sugar glider makes, you should look for this characteristic in the wild natural sugar glider. I will discuss this again in detail in a later post.
